Worldwide, 71 million people have been forced to leave their homes because of war, violence and persecution.
-
More than 50% of these people are children (unaccompanied minors)
-
Camp Moria, once set up to temporarily house 2000 people, currently consists of 19000 people.
-
These people are stuck in miserable conditions, where they are at great risk of even more physical and psychological damage.
-
Housing in the camp consists of self-built huts, tents, and (if you are lucky) containers. Each place is packed with people.
-
There are only 120 toilets and 75 showers for all these people.
-
Sexual abuse and violence are commonplace.
-
Europe is closing its borders and people are stuck. People, just like you and me, all looking for a safe and better future.
'Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.'
It was time, time to go. The next 2 months I will be there for these people, here in Moria.
